WHAT IS WALK-A-THON
Walk-a-Thon is the biggest fundraiser of the year and we couldn’t do that without the help and support of all of you. 100% of the contributions from our Walk-a-Thon are gifted back to our school. Donations in any amount are appreciated and are also tax-deductible. EHPTO uses Walk-a-Thon as our main fundraiser and its success towards our annual fundraising goal means parents won't be inundated with fundraising requests throughout the year. School fees and district budgets only go so far. The money raised goes to support our teachers by allowing them to add classroom supplies, school necessities and curriculum enhancements and also to developing our students by providing additional experiences in and out of the classroom. Our goal for 2023-24 is to raise $15,000.
Here is just a quick glimpse at some of the ways your donations made a difference to our school in the 2022-2023 school year:
- East Hanover Reads books and prizes
- Online Math Supplements, like Math Seeds and Reflex Math
- Teacher Appreciation & Mini Grants
- Field Trip Transportation
- Field Day & Kona Ice
- Grandparents & Goodies and Mom/Dad breakfasts and events

DAY OF WALK-A-THON
Family members are invited (and encouraged!) to come cheer on your student. Walk times will be distributed the week before Walk-a-Thon. You can watch from the sidelines or even walk with your child. Younger children are also welcome to attend. We just ask that you provide supervision and keep them away from the playground equipment. Sorry - but pets are not welcome. If you would like to volunteer during Walk-a-Thon, please email LeahBKrull@gmail.com.
If you are attending Walk-a-Thon, please park in the parking lot. Walk through the bus lot, through the gate and back to the playground. There will be a police officer at the gate. You are not permitted to block the buses or drive through the gate. You do NOT need to sign in at the office to attend Walk-a-Thon.
FAQs
How is money raised?
Your student will bring home 10 address labels. As a family, identify the names and addresses of 10 friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives (even those who live far away!) It is recommended that an adult neatly address the labels. Please keep the stapled top label in place so we can distinguish which labels belong to each child/family. You are welcome to list more than 10 addresses. Your student's teacher can provide more labels, if needed.
These labels are to be returned to school by Friday, September 29. Once the labels are returned, a postcard will be sent asking the individuals you identified to sponsor your student(s) during the Walk-a-Thon. The postcards will be addressed and mailed by the fundraising committee and the money is returned to the school. EHPTO will notify families when a gift has been received, sponsoring their student(s).
It is very important that you only list addresses of people with whom you have a relationship. EHPTO provides the postage for these mailings and therefore would like to reach as many people as possible who would like to invest in the lives of your student(s). Also, please do not send to families who already have a child at East Hanover, as this means duplicate postage.
What if we have more than 1 child at East Hanover?
For those families with more than one child at East Hanover, it is not necessary to submit 10 addresses for each child. Please submit 10 addresses per family and each sibling will be credited.
Why is my student so excited about returning labels?
Supporting your school is fun! Plus there are prizes for participating!
- Daily Prizes: Each time a family brings in 10 addressed labels, each student in that family will receive a prize (a candy bar!) 10 completed labels = 1 prize per student.
- Top Leapers: The classes with the most labels with verified addresses collected by Friday, September 29 will win:
- Grand Prize: A class ice cream & pizza party
- Second Place: A class ice cream party
- Meet our Goal Prize: If our school goal of $15,000 is met, the school will get to have a fun & whacky experience to be announced at our kick-off assembly.
