Helping Hands

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a volunteer service organization for 4th & 5th grade students.  Helping Hands gives students opportunities to experience the joys of giving to other people and donating their time to make a difference.

Students from each fourth & fifth grade classrooms have the opportunity to join this organization at the beginning of the school year (students who move into the district later in the year may also join, they need only to contact me).  Students wanting to participate must fill out an application, have parent permission, and sacrifice 1 recess period per month.

In the past, Helping Hands students have helped pack disaster bags for the American Red Cross, made holiday crafts for consumers at Hope Springs Farms, created good luck notes for Lower Dauphin mini-THON, made valentines for Vets staying at the Lebanon VA hospital, completed family/neighbor fall and spring clean up work hours, and held a "paper towel drive" for Susquehanna Service Dogs.  During the 2022-2023 school year, we took a field trip to Susquehanna Service Dogs and learned about their organization and how they're Helping Hands/paws too!  Helping Hands activities such as these will hopefully create life-long "givers" and show students that some of the most valuable gifts we can receive (or give) come from the heart.
